Is OUTLAST for beginners?

Yes, if you’re mentally tough. You don’t need to be fast, but you must be consistent and ready to push yourself.

No. Run as many as you can. Complete 4 or 5 laps to earn a patch. Finish all 6 to receive the OUTLAST medal and leaderboard ranking.

Finish all 6 laps with the fastest combined time to win your division. Winners are added to the national leaderboard and compete for the national prize.

You’re out. Each lap starts at the top of the hour, and only runners who finish on time can continue.

Each 5K is timed individually. Complete all 6 laps, and your combined time determines rankings.

Every OUTLAST race is on trail terrain, including dirt, rocks, roots, and elevation. Some pavement or gravel may be included.

Courses vary slightly around a 5K distance. Organizers keep each course as close as possible, but an exact 5K is not guaranteed.

Yes, as long as you finish the 5K within the hour. Some courses are rugged, and time can sneak up on you.

Yes. Water, basic hydration, and snacks are available at basecamp or the loop start. This is a cupless event, so bring your own bottle or hydration system.

Trail shoes, a hydration system, weather-appropriate layers, fuel between laps, and grit.

Yes. You may bring your own aid station or tent setup. You can buy tents that are already set up when you arrive as add-ons when registering on RunSignup.

OUTLAST is hosted at multiple trail locations nationwide. Course terrain and conditions vary by event.

You have one hour to complete each 5K lap. Any remaining time before the next start can be used for recovery.

Runners return to basecamp to rest, refuel, and recover before the next lap begins at the top of the hour.

Participants earn rewards based on their progress during the event:

  • Participants receive patches for completing laps 4 and 5
  • 1st place award (Male)
  • 1st place award (Female)

Finishers earn event rewards based on laps completed. Only runners who complete all 6 laps receive the OUTLAST medal and are included in the official leaderboard.
